Every year, fatigue is a major contributor to auto accidents in Burlington, NC and throughout the country. At Don Allred Insurance, we never like to hear about a client who has to file a fatigue-related auto insurance claim. That’s why we’ve compiled this short list of ways to stay awake on the road.
Stay Awake Without Caffeine
While caffeine is a go-to for many people when they’re sleepy (and when they’re awake), it’s not the only way to remain alert on the road. When a cup of coffee or a bottle of soda won’t be enough, try:
- staying hydrated by drinking water (instead of coffee or cola)
- pulling over for a cat nap
- splitting up driving responsibilities among licensed drivers
The last suggestion, sharing the driving load, is especially helpful on long trips. Even when you’re awake, it’s easy to become less alert after hours of driving. Taking turns at the wheel will give you and those with you a chance to catch up on any needed sleep and get refreshed.
Make Sure You’re Insured
When sharing the wheel, it’s important to make sure that your auto insurance policy will cover everyone who will be driving your car. Most policies cover anyone who is legally able to drive, but a few policies have exceptions. If you’d like to make sure your policy doesn’t have any exceptions, you can call our auto insurance agents.
At Don Allred Insurance, all of our auto insurance agents are independent agents. Not only are our agents qualified to review your auto insurance policy, but they can help you find a new policy if you need one. Before you head out on your next road trip with friends, get a good night’s sleep — but also call our office to make sure you’ll be fully covered no matter who is driving your car.
